Microsoft releases AI cyber security tool

Microsoft has launched its AI cybersecurity tool the Microsoft Security Copilot which it says brings the next generation of AI to combating cyber breaches, improving the time it takes to detect and respond to threats.

Corporate vice president of Microsoft Security Vasu Jakkal said the Security Copilot would help bring some balance back for those fighting against cyber breaches.
“Today the odds remain stacked against cybersecurity professionals, too often they fight an asymmetric battle against relentless and sophisticated attackers,” said Ms Jakkal.
“With Security Copilot, we are shifting the balance of power into our favour.”
“Security Copilot is the first and only generative AI security product enabling defenders to move at the speed and scale of AI.”
The firm said the AI security tool would simplify complex cyber security breaches and increase the capabilities of teams fighting the violations by summarising and making sense of the threat helping the defenders identify the malicious activity.
Microsoft said the Security Copilot was designed to continually learn and improve assistance to ensure security teams have the latest knowledge of attacks and up-to-date tactics, techniques and procedures to combat them.
Microsoft said there were 1,287 password attacks per second with the existing methods of combating attacks being found out against increasingly intelligent assailants.
It said the number of attacks had increased 67 per cent over the past five years with the security industry falling behind due to the workforce shortage and not being able to hire enough cyber risk professionals to keep pace.
Microsoft said the tool would also assist skills shortages in cyber security with the AI able to bridge knowledge gaps in professionals as well as enhance incident reporting across teams.
Executive vice president of Microsoft Security Charlie Bell said to combat the increasing number and complexity of cyber security risks businesses needed to turn to state-of-the-art technology.
“Advancing the state of security requires both people and technology – human ingenuity paired with the most advanced tools that help apply human expertise at speed and scale,” said Mr Bell.
“With Security Copilot we are building a future where every defender is empowered with the tools and technologies necessary to make the world a safer place.”
The firm said the Security Copilot would have its visibility of threats powered by both the customer organisation’s security data and Microsoft’s expansive threat analysis footprint.
It said this provided high-level industry expertise as Microsoft Security actively tracks more than 50 ransomware gangs, 250 unique nation-state cyber criminal organisations and receives 65 trillion threat signals every day.
