Work-in-progress AI ‘rich with possibilities’

Technology

Xero Australia country manager Will Buckley is excited about where ChatGPT and similar technology will take the tax profession.

Xero Australia country manager Will Buckley says artificial intelligence is rich with possibilities for the accounting profession and that he couldn’t resist testing ChatGPT – the high-profile bot launched last November by OpenAI.

“I was excited to get into it and just see what's capable of,” Mr Buckley said on this week’s Accountants Daily podcast. “A couple of the questions that I chucked in there I got complete nonsense responses!”

“I started to go down the tangent of trying to figure out if it was capable of delivering tax planning advice. So I asked some questions [for example] how would you navigate through establishing a pretty good estate plan and self-managed super fund for high-net-worth individuals?”

“Obviously, the technology is not all the way there yet!”
