Aussie firm aims accounting software at fast growing SMEs

Cibis says its latest accounting software, Xpect, will be a feasible option for businesses that cannot justify a global ERP system.

Australian firm Cibis International says its latest accounting software, Xpect, is pitched at rapidly expanding businesses that have outgrown their current system but are unready for the outlay of a full-scale enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.

“Using an accounting software that does accounting only should be as outdated as paper-based bookkeeping,” said Tony Heitmeyer, Cibis International’s general manager. “There is so much more a SME can do with the proper tools, integrated properly.”

“We know a big dilemma for SMEs is knowing when to migrate away from an SME accounting system, with multiple software add-ons.”

“Many SMEs consider the move to a global ERP system, but it’s not a feasible option for most small to medium size businesses, given cost and time to implement. SMEs need a practical fit-for-purpose alternative to an ERP which is why we developed Xpect.”

Cibis said Xpect was an enterprise cloud platform that could simplify company-wide business operations and accounting for SMEs through enabling management, communication, and reporting of information across every function in one platform.

Independent business software adviser Matt Paff said Xpect targeted the “SMERP dilemma”.

The dilemma involved SMEs having to choose between cost-effective systems that stuck to expensive accounting and mid-market ERP platforms that offered more than the business required.

“I often talk about the SMERP dilemma, the chasm that exists between SME solutions like Xero and MYOB AR and ERP systems like MYOB Advanced, NetSuite, and Microsoft Dynamics,” said Mr Paff.

“Xpect surprises with a broad cross-section of functionality from e-commerce to accounting, payroll to job management, inventory control to CRM — not something you expect in a solution priced for SMEs.”

“It’s an end-to-end solution with the usability of SME systems without the need for add-ons, and the broad functionality most often only found in ERP but at a price point that most growing SMEs can afford.”

Managing director of Orange Clothing Company John Brown said Xpect was a simpler system for his business.

“I wanted something that would do the job — and was easy for staff to use,” he said.

“I could see it would take another five products to do the whole job and I didn’t want that sort of IT complexity.”

Cibis International Pty Limited is an Australian software company that develops contemporary, customisable, and tailored cloud-based systems for businesses, with all Cibis products hosted in Australia for more than 20 years.
