Assistant commissioner Graham Whyte said it is important to sort out the payment of tax bills sooner rather than later in order to avoid penalties such as interest charges.

Mr Whyte said people worried about not being able to pay their tax bills on time should contact the ATO as early as possible.
“We’re here to help those who want to do the right thing. There are options if you’re afraid you won’t be able to pay your bill by the due date, including payment plans relevant to your circumstances,” said Mr Whyte.
“We offer a number of quick and easy ways to pay outstanding tax bills including BPAY or credit card,” he said.
“Paying by BPAY and credit card is safe and secure, and provides you with the convenience of paying online or through our self-help phone service at any time.”
