The federal government has confirmed the appointments of two additional members to the Board of Taxation.

Andrea Laing and Anthony Klein have been appointed part‑time members of the Board of Taxation. Their terms will last for a three‑year period.

Ms Laing brings a wealth of experience to the board, having gained considerable in-house extractive industry experience throughout her career. According to a statement from the government’s website, Ms Laing has spent more than two decades working at Shell on tax issues, particularly indirect and employment taxes.
Prior to this she was the global project manager of Shell and the country tax lead of Shell before that.
Meanwhile, Mr Klein holds more than two decades of experience working in the tax advisory space. Throughout his career, he has gained experience in both corporate and international tax matters, working at big four firm PwC.
Mr Klein’s clientele includes entrepreneurs and some of the largest tech firms across Australia.
In making the announcement, the federal government credited both Ms Laing’s and Mr Klein’s reputations in tax.
“The Board was established in September 2000 as a non‑statutory advisory body charged with contributing a business and broader community perspective to improving the design of taxation laws and their operation,” the statement said.
“These appointments will continue the high level of skills and experience available to the Board.
“Ms Laing’s appointment continues the Government’s strong record of identifying capable women for senior public sector roles.”
