A prominent tax professional has been appointed as a part-time member to the Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) for a five-year period.
Former Board of Tax chair joins government’s foreign investor compliance mission

Teresa Dyson, the former chair of the Board of Taxation, will join the FIRB to advise the Treasurer on the government’s foreign investment policy.
The FIRB is a non-statutory body established in 1976 to advise the Treasurer and the government on Australia’s foreign investment policy and its administration. The board's functions are advisory only.
Ms Dyson, a former partner at big four accounting firm Deloitte, is a senior taxation lawyer with over 20 years’ experience advising on infrastructure transactions, financing, corporate tax issues, mergers and acquisitions, the not-for-profit sector and tax controversy matters.
Ms Dyson will replace outgoing board member Michael D’Ascenzo AO, and is joined on the FIRB by the chair, David Irvine AO, David Peever, Patrick Secker, Alice Williams and Cheryl Edwardes AM.
Treasurer Scott Morrison welcomed the appointment, acknowledging her vast experience in the corporate space.
“Ms Dyson acts for major corporate clients, financial institutions and intermediaries, governments and public authorities, and charities and not-for-profit organisations,” said Mr Morrison.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Mr Michael D’Ascenzo AO for his contribution to the FIRB for the past five years.
“During his tenure he brought a valuable perspective on tax issues that helped shape the advice I received from the FIRB.”
