Stuart Forsyth, the former assistant deputy commissioner for superannuation at the ATO has joined McPherson Super Consulting as a company director and shareholder.

McPherson Super Consulting specialises in providing technical advice on superannuation matters to the accounting, legal and financial planning industries as well as providing education, training and support on SMSF legislation.
Allan McPherson, director and co-founder of McPherson Super Consulting, said he is delighted to welcome Mr Forsyth to the team.
“The boom in SMSFs means accountants and advisers across the country need to constantly update their skills and expertise. Having a former ATO assistant deputy commissioner added to our already comprehensive knowledge base enables us to offer an unrivalled skill set to support those financial professionals.
“For example, Stuart was involved in drafting the ATO ruling on limited recourse borrowing arrangements for SMSFs; being able to draw on his knowledge in this and other areas will be a major plus for clients.”
While at the ATO, Mr Forsyth contributed to the SMSF areas of the ATO’s Stronger Super project to implement the Cooper Review recommendations and his responsibilities included active compliance and risk and intelligence responsibilities for all superannuation subject areas.
Part of Mr Forsyth’s role at McPherson will be to assist the firm to grow its business both in Victoria and NSW.
“I think this business model can make an impact outside of Queensland relatively quickly and look forward to assisting on the company’s growth into new markets,” Mr Forsyth said.
“I also welcome the chance to renew my involvement with regional Queensland as my father was an accountant in Texas while I was growing up.”
As recently reported in AccountantsDaily, Mr Forsyth's former position at the ATO will remain vacant "for the foreseeable future".
