National insolvency firm Jirsch Sutherland has announced the appointment of a senior liquidator as a principal in its Melbourne office, as it looks to develop a mentoring arm within the firm.

Registered liquidator and CPA Andrew Mattinson has joined Jirsch Sutherland, having worked across a range of sectors such as health, not-for-profit, Registered Training Organisations, construction, FMCG, manufacturing and owners’ corporations.
Mr Mattinson, who was most recently with boutique advisory firm Hamilton Murphy, has also held roles with mid-tier firms Grant Thornton and HLB Mann Judd.
While at Grant Thornton, he established and led the practice management group to improve efficiencies and productivity of the insolvency group.
Jirsch Sutherland’s national managing partner, Bradd Morelli, welcomed Mr Mattinson’s appointment, hailing the leadership and experience he would bring to the firm.
“He has strong leadership and strategic skills and his advanced financial analysis skills will greatly benefit our firm and our clients. Another area of strength — and passion — is Andrew’s ability to mentor less experienced staff,” Mr Morelli said.
“I know he’s very keen to implement a Jirsch Sutherland mentor program, and we look forward to working with him on that.”
Mr Morelli also pointed out Mr Mattinson’s focus on establishing a strong relationship between Jirsch Sutherland and the Victorian Building Authority and Master Builders Association, in addition to holding rural Victorian seminars and training sessions for accountants.
Holding a degree in economics and finance from Deakin University, and a master’s in accounting from Monash University, Mr Mattinson said he was relishing the challenge at Jirsch Sutherland.
“My past roles in the corporate and NFP sectors enable me to provide strategic insights that other insolvency specialists might not ordinarily have,” he said.
“I’ve had a number of career highlights including trading several businesses such as a nursing home for 18 months, an abattoir and a food distribution business. I’ve also handled various restructures including a metal fabrication business and a webbing manufacturer in the textile industry.”
Mr Mattinson is also very passionate about contributing to his local community, highlighted by his work with Volunteering Victoria, where he was on the board and acted as treasurer for eight years.
He has also volunteered at Epworth Emergency, been Sunday Coordinator of Auskick, treasurer of the local kindergarten, duty coordinator and treasurer at Caulfield Little Athletics and has been a football coach.
