Sage formally releases new cloud product

The cloud-based software has been available to existing Sage Handisoft users for several months but is now officially available to the wider market.

The product is based on existing software developed by Sage around the world but, according to a statement from the company, it “has been wholly customised for the Australian market in the areas of tax compliance and awards interpretations around payroll”.
Alan Osrin, Sage Australia's managing director, said the product provides greater choice in the Australian accounting software market.
“Small business owners and their accountants have long needed a more reliable and easy-to-use solution that lets them focus on the business of doing business,” he said.
“Sage One manages all of the necessary and daunting financial components of running a business in a timely, accurate and cost efficient manner,” added Mr Osrin.
Lukas Taylor, general manager of Sage One, told AccountantsDaily he is confident the product will make a splash in the Australian market.
“Price, support and heritage is what will set us apart; we have 26 years’ experience with accountants around the world," he said.
Mr Taylor also emphasised Sage’s focus on security as a selling point.
“We have best practice security,” he said. “Sage One is hosted locally, hosted in Sydney with redundancy in Melbourne which is also a strong pitch to the accountants, which should give them some comfort," added Mr Taylor.
Steven Cohen, managing director of Sage One AAMEA [Australia, Asia, Middle East and Africa], said the product has been designed to “hit the sweet spot” with small businesses, but is not trying to be everything to everyone.
“It’s actually what small businesses need,” he said.
“I am in the frame of mind now that you know our legacy software does so much stuff, job costing and the like, I’m thinking those people can go elsewhere, I want to keep this thing user-friendly and simple,” Mr Cohen said.
