KPMG opens new office, flags big recruitment drive

Business

KPMG has officially opened a new western Sydney office, with the practice’s managing partner confirming plans to create 200 new jobs.

Located in Parramatta, the office will cover all lines of business, including audit and tax, but will have a particular focus on private enterprise clients.

At the official launch, David Pring, the new practice’s managing partner, told AccountantsDaily he is looking to boost the number of staff, currently at 45, to around 250.

"Our approach has been to move a small core of people from across the firm to link back to KPMG and to bring some of that cultural glue, but really this is a story about growth - and growth in western Sydney - and growth is about new jobs, not transferring staff.

"It's a growth story for new revenue, new clients, new jobs," he added.

Mr Pring said the firm will focus on both “organic” and “inorganic” growth, with graduate development and lateral recruitment planned.

"We have had good conversations with UWS (The University of Western Sydney) around being involved at the vocational level, at the graduate program level, conversations around how we can do work place placements with students. That's the best way of getting involved: students get to see us, we get to see them and then there is a natural fit, so organic growth will come through recruitment.

"We are looking at some inorganic growth as well through lateral hires; there will be some of both," Mr Pring said.

The office's western Sydney location will help the firm to develop greater relationships with existing and potential clients in one of the fastest growing economic centres in Australia, according to Mr Pring.

"I think nothing is better than face-to-face in terms of engaging with a client," he said.

"In terms of being able to deliver a project, technology works really, really well, document transfer and all of that stuff is fine, but there is nothing like being in the clients' premises talking with them about their business, where they do business. That's the real benefit we get from being in western Sydney."

NSW Premier Mike Baird was on hand to officially open the new office, praising the firm for its strong commitment to the people of western Sydney.

“The new KPMG office at Parramatta will be home to hundreds of new jobs and the staff working there will directly contribute to the growth and success of many companies based in western Sydney,” said Mr Baird.

“KPMG’s significant investment at Parramatta is a clear demonstration of its strong commitment to western Sydney," he said.
