KPMG partner defects to Grant Thornton

Business

Prominent mid-tier firm Grant Thornton has recruited a big four partner to lead the firm’s financial services practice.

By Michael Masterman 8 minute read

Madeleine Mattera joined Grant Thornton on Monday after seven years at KPMG and a total of 15 years servicing the financial services sector.

Ms Mattera told AccountantsDaily she is excited about the move and looking forward to helping the mid-tier firm build its financial services offering.

“From my perspective, I thought there was a lot of good capability within Grant Thornton and I was looking forward to being part of the team to help them grow their client base and broaden their capabilities.”

While at KPMG, Ms Mattera was predominantly focused on the very largest financial services organisations but said she is now looking forward to focusing on some of the smaller players in her new role.

“My particular experience is with some of the major superannuation funds in Australia, so retail superannuation funds, corporate super funds and industry funds and also within the general insurance space," she said.

“I’ve done a lot of work in the audit space but also the risk advisory space, particularly with the continuing pace of change within the superannuation and general insurance industries with increased regulation - the flow-on impacts of the Financial System Inquiry - and also the evolution of the industry with the increasing use of technology.

“[In my new role,] I see a greater opportunity to focus on the small and mid-sized financial services organisations, which I’m actually particularly passionate about and excited to be working with, whereas in the big four I was expected to focus on the top 10 companies in Australia,” Ms Mattera said.
