Several big names in the accounting industry, including a former big four senior partner and AASB chair, have been recognised in the Australia Day 2015 Honours List.

Accounting industry's Australia Day Honours recipients revealed

Former Australian Accounting Standards Board chairman and CEO Kevin Stevenson has been made a Member of the Order of Australia for “significant service to business and commerce through reforms in national and international accountancy standards”.

Before taking up his position at the AASB, Mr Stevenson was a senior partner of the PwC Global Capital Markets Group from 2005 to 2009. Prior to that he served as director of technical activities and as chairman of the International Financial Reporting Interpretations Committee (IFRIC) for the International Accounting Standards Board in London from 2002 to 2005.
Mr Stevenson is also an adjunct professor of the University of Queensland’s business, economics and law faculty and an honorary fellow of Monash University’s accounting and finance department.
Former AASB deputy chair Ian McPhee was also recognised and has been appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for "distinguished service to public administration, particularly in the areas of accountability and policy development, to the enhancement of public sector performance, and to professional auditing and assurance standards".
The AASB yesterday congratulated both Mr Stevenson and Mr McPhee on their awards.
AASB chair Kris Peach said "the awards for Kevin and Ian are richly deserved and are welcome recognition of their contributions in respect of, among other things, their achievements in standard setting. The awards reflect a growing appreciation of the important role that high-quality financial reporting plays in society."
Yellow Brick Road executive chairman Mark Bouris was also recognised for his “significant service to the finance industry, particularly the home loan mortgage sector, to education and to charitable organisations”. Mr Boris was recognised in the Member (AM) in the General Division category.
