In releasing revenue figures showing a jump of 6.5 per cent to $1.162 billion for the year ending 31 March 2014, Deloitte Australia announced the substantial partnership growth.

Effective 1 July 2014, Deloitte has promoted 56 new partners, of whom 17 are women, adding to the 37 experienced lateral hires, including an additional seven female partners who have joined the partnership in the last 12 months.

Giam Swiegers, Deloitte’s chief executive, said he was pleased to see females feature strongly in this year’s round of promotions, making up 30 per cent of the new intake, but hoped even more women would be in leadership roles going forward.

“While we are making progress there is still much to be done. I remain determined to cement Deloitte’s leadership role in the business community as one of Australia’s best employers for women,” he said.

According to the firm, women now represent 22 per cent of the Deloitte partnership.

Meanwhile, Mr Swiegers said the growth in partners reflects the firm’s future revenue expectations.

“Our investment in 93 new partners clearly demonstrates our confidence in the Australian economy’s outlook, and in the future growth waves we predicted in our latest Building the Lucky Country report, Positioning for prosperity? Catching the next wave,” he said.

“Our economic research identified the growth potential (in addition to mining) that businesses such as ours can harness to drive our future growth. The extraordinarily positive reception the paper has had across business and government attests to the fact that despite sluggish economic growth over recent years, there are many sound opportunities that can be harnessed to drive future growth."

“At Deloitte, we are certainly examining our own skills mix with these future growth pockets in mind,” Mr Swiegers said.
