Business women embracing technology

Business

Female-led small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) are more technologically “switched on” than those led by males, according to research conducted by MYOB.

By Staff Reporter 8 minute read

The latest MYOB Business Monitor suggests 59 per cent of female-led SMEs now have an online presence, compared to just 50 per cent of male-led SMEs.

The report also suggests that female business operators are savvier with social media and cloud computing than their male counterparts, with 47 per cent utilising social media and 35 per cent utiliseing cloud computing for their business, compared with 35 per cent and 31 per cent of male business operators respectively.

“We’ve spent many years conducting research into SMEs’ use of online technologies. It’s clear to us that there is a strong correlation between strong business performance and businesses with an online presence," said MYOB general manager, marketing, Caroline Ruddick.

For example, those with a website are 56 per cent more likely to see annual revenue rise, and those who use cloud computing are 30 per cent more likely to do so. We know online technologies can help many businesses become better connected, more productive and more competitive.” she said.

“The research suggests the keys to overall success are also work/life balance, making the most of online technologies such as cloud computing, understanding their market and competitors, and offering a range of quality products and services,” Ms Ruddick added.
