Prospa, Intuit among the nation’s best workplaces

The results, compiled from employee questionnaires, show the importance of office culture in retaining staff, says survey organiser Great Place to Work.

Small-business lender Prospa and accounting software specialist Intuit Australia have both made the ranks of Australia’s Best Workplaces 2023 after a national survey of employees.

The 90 companies on the Best Workplaces lists are compiled from results of a survey by Great Place to Work, which asks staff to rate their company’s culture against 60 statements on a five-point scale and answer two open-ended questions.

Prospa co-founder and chief executive Greg Moshal said he was humbled by the support of his employees.

“It is, after all, our people who make Prospa a great place to work by bringing their full and authentic selves to work every day,” he said.

“When your purpose underpins what you do and the decisions that you make, it energises your employees, inspires bigger and bolder thinking at every level and translates to great experiences for your customers.”

He said Prospa had invested in fresh ways of working to “build an exceptional employee experience”, including a Performance and Growth Framework that evaluated staff on performance outcomes and values during annual performance reviews.

Chief people officer Elise Ward, pictured, said the assessment measured both results and how they were achieved.

“It’s part of our strategy to ensure our values are embedded across everything we do and lived every day,” she said. “Values are our secret sauce that allows us to build high-performing teams, attract the best talent and deliver customer experiences that genuinely make a positive difference in their lives.”

She said Prospa was also committed to building an inclusive and equitable workplace through its robust benchmarking process, parental leave policies, employee wellbeing benefits, and two-way feedback loops across the organisation.

The managing director of Great Place to Work Australia and New Zealand, Roland Wee, congratulated the companies on the list and said they were validated by the voices of their employees.

“In today’s talent market businesses need to put their best foot forward to showcase their great workplace culture to retain high-performing employees for the years to come,” he said.

“Companies who have made it onto this year’s Best Workplaces list are a testament to consistently improving and maintaining their great workplace culture practices.”

Intuit Australia, founded 10 years ago as an offshoot of its US namesake, came in at 25 among mid-sized companies in its third appearance on the list.

Small- to mid-sized business marketing leader James Barnett, pictured, said his favourite part of working at Intuit is the people.

“There is such a strong sense of community and collaborative energy here,” he said. “Intuit truly puts its people and culture first.

“I get to work on projects that are constantly challenging me and pushing me to grow professionally. I feel valued and trusted by the team, which has played a big role in my job satisfaction over the years.”

Accountant and bookkeeper partner manager Maya Oxford said the company was a “very safe space for people to show up as they are”.

“I personally have been on a personal growth journey recently and I feel comfortable in announcing that I now go by the pronouns they/them, which is a big thing to bring people into my life,” they said.

“And the fact that Intuit makes such a safe space for me to feel comfortable to do so makes me really proud.”
