The boutique firm becomes the group’s fourth office in the Sunshine State following growth last year in South Australia.

Ipswich-based Harding Martin has joined the Carbon Group to become its fourth office in Queensland and 17th nationally.

The group said the Harding Martin office will rebrand to Carbon and add 20 staff to the top 40 accounting firm.

Harding Martin director David Martin said the move was a good fit for the boutique accountancy.

“Our focus has always been on offering the full range of services to our clients and ensuring each client receives personalised services based on their unique needs,” he said.

“When we met with Carbon Group, it was clear from the beginning that this passion is one that both firms share, which created an exciting opportunity to join.”

Harding Martin had two decades of experience and expertise in a wide range of industry segments including health professionals, dentistry, pharmacies, road transport, hotels, property development, construction and associated trades.

Carbon Group co-founder Nathan Hood said it was a great way to start the financial year.

“Having experienced significant growth in South Australia last year, we turned our attention to Queensland,” he said.

“Launching Carbon Ipswich is key to our growth plan, both with its proximity to Brisbane and its strong local community.”

Carbon Group, which began nine years ago following a meeting between founders Nathan Hood and Jamie Davison, has grown quickly from one office in Perth to operations in all the mainland states.

In July it formalised a merger with Perth-based Kensington Financial Group to bolster its presence in its home state of Western Australia.

The move followed several years of collaboration between the two firms and resulted in the entire Kensington Financial Group relocating to the Carbon Group’s largest office in Osborne Park.

Two years ago it began its expansion in Western Australia with the acquisition of Perth-based firms Haydon Kinnaird and Myriad Financial.

Last year, Carbon added South Australian firm Symes Accountants, which had been based in Gawler since 1986.

Carbon Group was named Firm of the Year at the Australian Accounting Awards in both 2018 and 2020.
