Former retail chief appointed Queensland small business commissioner

Former National Retail Association CEO Dominique Lamb has been appointed Queensland’s small business commissioner to commence today, 23 December.

The government said Ms Lamb brought with her crucial experience of working with the small business sector on important issues including economic recovery and industrial relations.
Queensland's small business minister Dianne Farmer said the appointment would help guide the sector forwards.
“Dominique Lamb has extensive experience in leading change in complex environments and has been involved in significant engagement in the Queensland sector as an advocate for retail, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic recovery period,” said Ms Farmer.
“I congratulate Ms Lamb and look forward to working with her to continue to support the needs of our small business sector.”
Ms Lamb has previously been president of Women’s Legal Service Queensland and adviser for the Australian Industry Group, as well as her position as CEO of the National Retail Association.
Her appointment comes after the Queensland small business commissioner position was only made permanent earlier this year with the state government passing the Small Business Commissioner Act 2022 in March.
“Permanency of the small business commissioner role in Queensland ensures our small businesses continue to have ready access to support, information and advice, and reduce the time and costs associated with resolving disputes,” said Ms Farmer.
Ms Farmer also thanked outgoing commissioner Maree Adshead for her work and “key role” in supporting small businesses through the pandemic and recent natural disasters.
“Maree Adshead is a passionate advocate for small business and she and her team have provided a strong voice for small businesses across Queensland, helping small business throughout the COVID-19 pandemic as well as leading engagement with government at all levels to champion Queensland small business needs and issues,” said Ms Farmer.
“Ms Adshead led us through two of the most difficult years and we have emerged with a stronger economy and business community as a result of her direct support to the business sector as a whole.”
Ms Farmer said small businesses made up more than 97 per cent of all entities in Queensland, employed 970,000 people and contributed $120 billion to the state’s economy.
