Xero opens Melbourne HQ

Hundreds of Xero employees moved into the company’s new Melbourne HQ in Hawthorn on Monday (21 March), gathering together under one roof for the first time.

Designed and built during the pandemic, the office spans four levels and includes breakout spaces, webinar suites and an indoor garden – a nod to the home backyards that served as offices for many during lockdowns.
“We’re thrilled to have an office that reunites our local team under one roof, particularly after the events of the past two years,” said Xero managing director for Australia and Asia Joseph Lyons.
“With the pandemic causing major shifts in the way we live and work, we were able to make adjustments during the design phase to meet the changing needs of our people.
“We have focused on offering a place to work that supports our people with what they need when they choose to come in, in a way that makes them feel supported, considered and safe.”
The new office also includes a fully equipped gym, bike storage, a towel service plus wellbeing rooms for prayer or breastfeeding mothers.
It also features murals by three local artists – Carla McRae, Clemens Habicht and Ryhia Dank – and was designed to minimise its environmental impact with more than 200 solar panels, a rainwater harvesting system and 12 electric vehicle charging stations.
“This building is a representation of our culture and values,” Mr Lyons said.
Xero’s Melbourne team previously worked across multiple sites in Hawthorn and the move comes as the company updates its work practices to help retain and attract talent.
Xero now allows permanent employees, regardless of gender, to take up to six months of paid parental leave while product and tech specialists can choose a permanent remote-working arrangement with four funded office visits a year.
“At Xero, we focus on creating a great environment for people to be able to come to work and be their genuine self,” said Mr Lyons.
