KordaMentha has strengthened its international forensic services by appointing former NSW Police Force detective sergeant Rob Watson as a forensic partner at its Singapore office.

Partner and forensic investigations leader Matthew Fleming said Mr Watson’s appointment demonstrated the steps the firm was taking to increase its market position and strengthen the firm’s offerings in the South-East Asia region.

“Rob’s decades of experience with investigations will further bolster our team of forensic specialists across the region,” said Mr Fleming.

KordaMentha said Singapore was strategically important to the firm’s practice and a strong regional market for forensic services, with clients involved in complex multi-jurisdictional matters.

Head of KordaMentha’s Singapore office Cameron Duncan said bringing Mr Watson on board aligned with the team’s strategic focus.

“Given his background and career progression, Rob’s client relationships are extensive in both Australia and South-East Asia,” said Mr Duncan.

“With impressive leadership experience in the field, Rob will perform an important role in helping us achieve further growth.”

Mr Watson most recently worked for BHP as manager of response and investigations across Australia and Asia, and before that was employed by Deloitte where he was a director in its financial crime and forensic investigations practice.

His previous experience includes investigating fraud and financial crime, including sensitive high-profile commercial fraud and international money laundering across Australia and Singapore as well as internal fraud and international sanction breaches in the oil, gas and mining industry in Australia, Singapore, Japan and Dubai.

While a detective sergeant at the NSW Police Force he was attached to the Serious and Organised Crime Directorate and was required to lead eminent fraud and corruption investigations.

Founded in 2002, KordaMentha is an independent advisory and investment firm which provides specialist cyber security, financial crime, forensic and restructuring services across the Asia-Pacific.
