Xero has appointed former Spotify director Dave Lee as workforce management software business Planday’s next CEO.

Xero’s chief growth officer Chris O’Neill, who was filling in the interim, said the firm was excited to bring on board someone with demonstrated leadership experience.

“Dave is a proven product and digital leader with more than 20 years’ experience in building and overseeing successful product and innovation teams in rapid-growth start-ups and global organisations across a wide variety of sectors in Europe and the US,” said Mr O’Neill.

“We look forward to working closely with Dave to make workforce management easier for more customers and their employees through Planday’s leading scheduling, time and attendance software.”

Mr Lee joins the firm from the fintech platform Lunar, where he was chief product officer responsible for building and leading product design for the business’s more than 500,000 users.

Prior to that he was senior vice-president of product development and experience at IKEA and a product director at Spotify in Sweden.

Xero said Mr Lee would be in charge of leading Planday’s business globally, driving its market strategy and development of its workforce management tools which support more than 400,000 users worldwide.

Mr Lee said he was looking forward to the role.

“I am very excited to join the incredible team at Planday and build on the successes they have already achieved in realising their workforce management vision by helping more businesses and their employees thrive together,” he said.

Mr Lee will begin on 1 May.

Planday was founded in 2004 in Denmark and was acquired by Xero in 2001. It now operates in more than 10 countries and supports over 400,000 users across Europe, Australia and the US.
