Appointments

The firm bolsters its risk expertise team as businesses increasingly seek assistance with tougher conditions.

Former KPMG director Harsh Vardhan has been recruited by BDO as risk advisory partner in its Melbourne office.

Managing partner of the Melbourne office David Garvey welcomed Mr Vardhan and said the firm had seen increased demand for risk expertise as businesses faced tougher conditions.

“Harsh is extremely client focused – he builds strong and trusting relationships and delivers custom risk solutions that acknowledge the unique needs and challenges of the business,” said Mr Garvey.

“We are strengthening our team to meet a demand for risk expertise, and we’re looking forward to being able to offer our clients Harsh’s extensive experience helping companies managing their risk and compliance practices.”

Mr Vardhan joins BDO with more than 18 years of expertise in audit, assurance, risk and compliance management, along with experience working at significant financial institutions such as La Trobe Financial, NAB and UniSuper as well as EY and KPMG.

Demand from clients for risk expertise and the skill sets that Mr Vardhan had were expected to continue to be high for the foreseeable future, according to Mr Garvey.

“Harsh brings with him a deep capability in developing frameworks for periods of extended and complex change – something many Australian companies are experiencing right now,” he said.

The firm said Mr Vardhan has a keen interest in developing bespoke risk frameworks, processes and structures that were fit for purpose for small- and medium-sized businesses to ensure they gain the most out of risk management activities.

The appointment comes shortly after BDO appointed former Deloitte director Ed Nicholls to its Melbourne office – also as a risk advisory partner – as well as Bill Mately and Tim Dighton at the firm’s Sydney and Brisbane offices respectively.

BDO Australia was founded in 1975 and has grown to become one of the largest in the BDO organisation with over 2,140 staff and more than 250 partners as well as offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Adelaide, Hobart, Cairns, and the Sunshine Coast.
