KPMG appoints experienced South Pacific and PNG leaders

KPMG has appointed two experienced professionals, Zanie Theron and Ces Iewago, to lead its South Pacific and Papua New Guinea (PNG) offices respectively.

National managing partner of enterprise at KPMG Australia Paul Howes said the appointments would build on the growth already seen in the region recently.
“We have two experienced and able leaders in PNG and the South Pacific who have a focus on client needs and also enjoy outstanding connections,” said Mr Howes. “They both understand the need to deliver value.”
“We are committed to assisting the businesses and people of the region.”
Ms Theron, currently managing partner of KPMG PNG, said she was excited to take over as the firm’s South Pacific leader and hand over leadership to Mr Iewago.
“I have been working in PNG for more than 17 years,” she said. “KPMG has experienced significant growth in recent years, extending our client base and people numbers and providing strong value across sectors in PNG
“Ces is very well known and respected here and will be able to build on our existing achievements in this next phase.”
“In my new role I am looking forward to working with the people and cultures of our region and help support productivity and growth.”
Ms Theron also acknowledged her predecessor, Michael Yee-Joy, and his dedication to the role as he retires after four decades of service.
“I would also like to recognise the contribution made by Michael Yee-Joy who has overseen KPMG’s expansion across the South Pacific,” she said.
“This includes helping set up the Fiji Dynamix which now has more than 70 dedicated team members – and welcoming a record number of graduate hires to the firm in Fiji earlier this year.”
As partner in charge of KPMG’s South Pacific practice, her role would include leading the firm’s large established offices in PNG and Fiji as well as other locations such as the Solomon Islands, Samoa, Tonga and Nauru where the firm has delivered services.
Having joined KPMG PNG only in September last year from the New Guinea Gold Corporation the firm said Mr Iewago had brought a strong commitment to clients and a passion for developing local talent.
He said his focus would be on creating growth opportunities for clients and providing help in the increasingly critical area of ESG.
“We are assisting clients across public and private sectors and, in particular, have been successful in providing support in the expanding area of ESG compliance,” Mr Iewago said.
