Grant Thornton has appointed former KPMG partner Matt Darby as its national head of retail and consumer products.

Mr Darby joined Grant Thornton as a partner in the retail management consulting team and stepped into the position after Luke Ritchie decided to stand down after several years in the role.

Mr Darby said he was excited to bring his skills to the position and to continue to grow the firm.

“I am looking forward to working with the wider team and bringing my retail experience and knowledge to continue to position Grant Thornton in retail at the very top,” said Mr Darby.

“I know I am supported by an incredibly strong and established national team.”

Grant Thornton said that Mr Darby brought considerable knowledge as he had worked within every segment of the retail sector and across the supply chain while also having a great passion for the industry.

National managing partner of industry at Grant Thornton, Iain Kemp, said that he was grateful someone of Mr Darby’s experience could take over from Mr Ritchie.

“The retail and consumer products group is our number one priority industry at Grant Thornton and I am pleased to announce that Matt Darby will take on the role of national industry leader,” he said.

“Luke will continue to support the core team for the retail industry group and I want to thank Luke for his guidance and leadership, and welcome Matt to the role.”

Mr Kemp also praised Mr Ritchie for the work he achieved while in the role.

“Luke has worked extremely hard to build Grant Thornton’s profile in the retail market,” said Mr Kemp.

“Our reputation and client mix in the retail industry is highly regarded and has helped us to produce interesting and rewarding work alongside our clients.

“Additionally, Luke has supported Grant Thornton’s efforts in recruiting a high calibre talent with genuine interest and experience in retail, augmenting the existing depth of capability and experience within the firm.”

Grant Thornton is part of a global network that has over 61,700 professionals across 147 countries with the Australian team consisting of 165 partners and 1,300 staff across offices in Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth.
