A former KPMG partner has now been appointed as the chair of the Board of Taxation, nine months following the sudden passing of the late Michael Andrew.

The government has now appointed Board of Taxation member Rosheen Garnon as part-time chair.
Ms Garnon will take over the leadership of the board from Dr Julianne Jacques, who stepped up as acting chair following the sudden passing of the previous chair, the late Michael Andrew.
A member of the board since her appointment in 2018, Ms Garnon will now be tasked to improve the design of taxation laws and their operation through consultation with the accounting profession and the wider business community.
Ms Garnon was the former national managing partner for KPMG Australia’s taxation division for six years and was previously the global partner in charge of the firm’s international executive services business.
Ms Garnon is also a fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, a chartered tax adviser and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
She sits on a number of other committees, including as the chair and non-executive director of Alexium International Group Limited, a non-executive director of The Smith Family and a non-executive director of the Australian Rail and Track Corporation.
The government has also appointed Chris Vanderkley as a part-time member of the board for a three-year period from 25 March 2020.
Mr Vanderkley is currently a special counsel at PwC, leading their tax transparency and tax governance practice. He was also the former director of tax and country CFO at General Electric.
