A Sydney-based accounting firm has promoted one from its ranks to partner, a move intended to strengthen its corporate tax division.

ESV Accounting and Business Advisors announced the appointment of Geoff Tierney as partner earlier this week.

Mr Tierney specialises in tax and will also be able to provide clients with dedicated outsourced CFO services.

“Geoff has been an integral part of the team at ESV over the past five years,” ESV partner Kurt Baker said.

“His focus on the firm’s highly successful international business pillar has seen him work with ESV’s key overseas clients and [help] them do business in Australia.”

This comes 18 months after ESV Accounting and Business Advisors and Harveys Chartered Accountants merged.

The firm focuses on several areas of taxation and business services, including audit and assurance, business valuation and litigation support, and business advisory services.

It also provides services to not-for-profit organisations, given the "unique challenges" these business structures face in navigating tax law and legislation.
